UEM's Open University to Senior Citizens (Universidade Aberta à Terceira Idade - Unati) offers, on average, 40 to 50 courses per semester to around 700 students at Maringá campus. In Cianorte, the unit started in July 2013 and currently serves 90 students in four classes. Courses are offered free of charge in several areas of knowledge, being organized into six thematic areas: Art and Culture, Communicative Processes and Procedures, Physical and Mental Health, Physical and Social Environment, Law and Citizenship and Humanities.
One of Unati's goals is to offer the opportunity to meet the needs of students and to develop their skills. The program believes that knowledge expansion and cultural reach will allow greater social and political participation and the defense of their rights as citizens. For people aged 60 and over, the public is characterized by its diversity of educational and socioeconomic level, age, life experiences, physiological capacities and physical conditions. The elderly in the region also have access to the Aging Reference Center Program (Programa Centro de Referência do Envelhecimento - Procere), which offers various activities in the areas of health, guidance, leisure and social interaction. Appointments can be made in the segments of Law, Physical Education, Nursing, Pharmacology, Geriatrics, Nutrition, Geriatric Dentistry, Pedagogy and Psychology.
