Program encourages the implementation of virtual exchange among associated Higher Education Institutions
The International Cooperation Office (Escritório de Cooperação Internacional - ECI) was informed, Wednesday (5th, April), that the State University of Maringá (Universidade Estadual de Maringá - UEM) was awarded the seal Brazilian Virtual Exchange Program (BRaVE) from the Brazilian Association of International Education (Associação Brasileira de Educação Internacional - FAUBAI).
The FAUBAI-BRaVE program encourages the implementation of virtual exchange with the Higher Education Institutions associated, offering students possibilities to develop multicultural and cooperative online activities through disciplines with international interface in partnership with international institutions.
To earn the seal, UEM had to fulfill several requirements such as proof of Virtual Exchange offers, proof of completion of disciplines in Virtual Exchange and the nomination of an institutional coordination, which will be the responsibility of professor and member of the ECI's Internationalization at Home department, Luciana Cabrini Simões Calvo.
According to her, "the seal recognizes and values the virtual exchange initiatives carried out at the institution. We are delighted with the news, because ECI's Internationalization at Home department has been dedicated to searching for and sharing virtual exchange opportunities with UEM’s teaching staff, as well as providing full support in carrying out these initiatives.
Virtual exchange enables students, by interacting with peers from other international contexts, to develop cross-cultural and global perspectives on a given content worked on together. It re-signifies the view of internationalization beyond mobility and ends up being more inclusive and comprehensive."
For ECI’s coordinator, Professor Renato Leão Rego, "the seal gives visibility and stimulates an activity that increases the interaction of our students with international peers and reinforces the building of global competencies.”
