Graduate Program in Animal Sciences and ECI host the 1st PPZ International Day

Event brought together international students of the program to share their experiences with the academic community

On Monday (30 June 2025), the coordination of the Graduate Program in Animal Sciences (PPZ) at the State University of Maringá (UEM) held the first PPZ International Day, a meeting in which faculty and students could learn about the personal and academic experiences of the PPZ’s international students.

Daylen Barrueta (Cuba), Luis Castro (Venezuela), Sandra Diaz (Colombia), Ibrahim Abdu, Ekaette Udoekong, Akinlolu Oluwafemi, and Ibrahim Adeshina (Nigeria), as well as Carla da Graça João Finiosse and Nareta Vairede Figueiredo (Mozambique), shared their impressions of the University, their future prospects, and the impact of graduate studies on their professional paths and in their respective countries and regions.

During the event, the students expressed their dream of returning to their home countries to pursue their profession and apply the knowledge they have acquired. They highlighted the tuition-free education offered by UEM and valued the opportunity to engage in practical activities from the first years of their undergraduate studies. Their stay at the institution represents a chance to work in teaching and research, in addition to opening doors for partnerships with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and international technical consultancies.

One of the main outcomes of the event was the promotion of interculturality, bringing different realities into the UEM context and, as participants said, making everyone “global citizens.” In addition, the International Cooperation Office (ECI) stood out for the support and hospitality offered to international students. The students recognized UEM as a respected institution and expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity.
