The Experimental Farm of Iguatemi (Fazenda Experimental de Iguatemi – FEI) accommodates research and academic outreach projects, internships and practical classes to an array of courses at the State University of Maringá (Universidade Estadual de Maringá – UEM), in Paraná. The farm occupies an area of 170 hectares and comprises sectors of plant and animal-based production. It is located in the district of Iguatemi, 18 km from the city of Maringá.
The plant-based sector focuses on the activities of fruit farming, coffee farming and forestry, in addition to the study of soil conservation. With regards to infrastructure, it accommodates a Seed Analysis Laboratory, a Training Center in Agricultural Mechanization, an Entomology Laboratory, and an Agroecology and Organic Production Sector (Laboratório de Análise de Sementes, Centro de Treinamento em Mecanização Agrícola, Laboratório de Entomologia e Setor de Agroecologia e Produção Orgânica).
The animal-based sector comprises the farming of poultry, dairy and beef cattle, goat, sheep, rabbit, quail, equines, buffalo, and swine, along with beekeeping. Its infrastructure accommodates an Embryo Transfer Laboratory, a Forage Production Sector, a Mesoregional Center of Excellence in Dairy Technology, an Animal Skin and Leather Production Laboratory for small and medium-sized animals, a Fishing Technology Laboratory and a Nutrition and Metabolism of Domestic Felines Laboratory (Laboratório de Transferência de Embriões, Forrageira, Centro Mesorregional de Excelência em Tecnologia do Leite, Laboratório de Produção de Peles e Couros de Animais de pequeno e médio porte, Laboratório de Tecnologia de Pescado e Laboratório de Nutrição e Metabolismo de Felinos Domésticos).
The farm is also home to a slaughterhouse for small and medium-sized animals, registered at the Municipal Inspection Service of Animal Products (Serviço de Inspeção Municipal de Produtos de Origem Animal). All meats provided by the facility are sold at the Experimental Farm of Iguatemi and at the main campus of the State University of Maringá.
